-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
This thing has been sitting in beta for bloody ages now. I've added a few
nice features which I'm sure some people might like, but I never got around
to adding one final feature which could finish everything off and have it
ready for release. (And this last feature is required to make all the other
ones work a lot better -> see the Beta_History file).
Unfortunately for 'you guys', a few things happened:
a) My Exams meant I couldn't spend much time coding this when I wanted to.
b) By the time I had the time to code (!), these things happened:
1) The scene had become shit.
2) I had got into the internet where
2a) Everything isn't run on AmiExpress and thus doesn't SUCK
2b) It is more interesting because there are many more people, and things
are still 'alive'.
2c) ...pah, some other stuff too, which I can't think of right now...
3) I had completely re-written all the routines I use in most of my programs,
meaning that to continue working on SAmiLog/SDupeCheck would take a lot
of screwing around and re-coding.
...so I really couldn't be bothered to finish off some utils for a piece of
software which sucks (AmiExpress, my God I can't believe they still ask MONEY
for that - if you ask me it's developed by MicroSoft: just look at it. It's
a standard which everyone wishes was better but isn't), and is going to be
used by the 'scene' which I'm not really into any more. (I have nothing
against the scene, but you can understand that there is more motivation to
write a util that you are going to see and maybe even use yourself).
So, I decided that enough is enough. I've already given this stuff out to some
friends (most of them just asked for it via the 'net), and now I'm giving it
to everyone, in case it is of use to someone out there. (Perhaps not).
It is a shame that I've spent quite a lot of time on SAmiLog3 and the new
SDupeCheck, so I am also releasing the source of them so that anyone who is
interested can complete them him/herself. (Provided they can work out what's
what - I'm not sure how easy these things will be to understand for anyone who
isn't me!).
You should be able to find the source in a separate archive. If you can't
find it on any BBS, check on Aminet because I'll be putting it there.
A few people have been asking me for source which shows how to write /X doors
in assembler, so now they have it too, although I wouldn't suggest you take
this source as a 'Bible', because I'm sure a lot of it could be done MUCH
better. (Which is why I re-wrote all my routines -> all of my new programs
have much better error-messages and are a LOT easy to code due to my new
'coding environment', or whatever you want to call it).
So anyway, I don't know how useful anyone will find all this junk, but I
thought I'd release it anyway, in case someone out there wants to use or
continue/finish what I don't have the motivation to do anymore.
If any of you are interested in what I'm doing right now (yeah, right!),
as far as programming goes I've just written a couple of simple add-ons for
DirectoryOpus5, and I've got some other DOpus ideas, as well as a few
AmigaDOS utils to write/update. Check out MWB_DOpus_7.lha if you give a
flying fuck. - I'm also starting univeristy in October'95, so I'll probably
have too much work to do there and only just enough time to answer my e-mail,
let alone program anything! :-).
If you wish to contact me (just to say 'hello', to slag me off for being an
asshole, or to ask any questions about the source code (but please, don't
report any bugs to me as I'm not about to fix them!)), you can write to
leo@hampschl.demon.co.uk until October'95.
After this time, you _should_ be able to reach me at:
leo.davidson@keble.oxford.ac.uk
However, is this doesn't work in October, and you still want to talk to
me (God knows WHY! hehe), write to my friend and he should be able to
tell you how to get hold of me:
Trevor Morris: a3nb@unb.ca
If you have IRC access, I'm "Nudel" in #Amiga (Effnet & Undernet) - that
shouldn't change!
Best wishes to you all,
Leo (Pot-Noodle).
